The Bureau of Reclamation, Power Office is seeking interested internal candidates to be considered for upcoding opportunity with the Flaming Gorge, Curecanti, and Glen Canyon Field Divisions! This opportunity is for a detail or temporary promotion, not to exceed 120 days (non-competitive promotion - up codes within a sliding calendar year), performing highscaling duties.
Location - Elephant Butte, New Mexico, Montrose, Colorado, and Page, Arizona
Duties
Works from rope slings, boatswain chairs or scaffolding, performs all work associated with the checking and placing of rock bolts. Work will include drilling, grouting, bolt placement, and checking tension of existing and newly placed bolts. Makes periodic inspections for loose or dangerous rock conditions, reporting such conditions to the supervisor. Rock work will be accomplished on canyon walls, access tunnels, cable tunnels, audits and roadway cuts.
Scales loose rock from canyon walls and roof and walls of access tunnels. Removes plant growth from canyon walls which could cause fracturing and falling of rock in areas that would endanger lives or property. Removes icicles from canyon walls above structures and access roads.
In accomplishing the above duties, the employee must have sufficient journeyman knowledge of and ability to operate the following items: air tools, jackhammers, power saws, sandblasting equipment, drills, and hand tools.
Erects scaffolds, platforms, hoisting frames and devices. Performs rigging incidental to lifting, moving, dismantling, assembling, and positioning of equipment.
Performs periodic inspections and repair work inside dam penstocks, draft tubes, on surface of dam structures, and powerplant structures. Performs as a core driller.
Performs work in safe manner and maintains tools and equipment in good conditions.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors, in and around dams, powerplants, and related facilities and structures. Incumbent is exposed to prevailing weather elements and terrain conditions while performing hazardous work. Work is performed on canyon walls, in tunnels, and on structures. Work will require bending, stooping, walking, climbing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Incumbent must be able to work from substantial heights while suspended by a two- rope system in a full body harness. Work assignments also include working confined spaces and closed and restricted areas.
Qualifications
The individuals selected will be required to pass a Government furnished physical examination and, upon passing this examination will be provided training on how to work off of ropes, boatswain chairs, or scaffolding. The selectees will also be trained to perform the actual duties of a High Scaler as described in "Description of Duties" below. Failure to meet the physical requirements or successfully complete the training will result in disqualification.
