This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. The incumbent works mostly independently in the field and assumes responsibility for oversight of the patient flow in the Primary Care Clinic. He/she is responsible for providing a clinic daily schedule and assuring adequate daily coverage of all Patient-Aligned Care Teams (PACT), tele-­PACT, and specialty clinics, assisting in keeping clinical operations flowing, assisting in guiding the LPN staff, serves in a leadership role to other PCC LPN/LVN to promote holistic care and optimize clinic efficiency and in assisting other staff to improve and advance their practice, serves as a resource person/mentor to other PCC LPN/L VN for frequently used equipment in the clinic setting and utilizes appropriate protocol for equipment repair and maintenance, helps problem solve as occurrences arise, actively listens to peers and Veterans concerns, functions as a role model for coworkers in guiding clinical practice, encourages and promotes positivity in the workplace, remains professional in all of his or her encounters, coordinates work assignments of students and volunteers in the clinic setting, participates in projects and committees, actively seeks out educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and skills, maintains patient confidentiality always; and guides others to protect patient and family rights, works with clinic manager/s when recommending performance improvement of peers, performs competencies of staff in the clinic. Another big function of the Lead is orientation of nursing staff; this includes LPNs, Health Technicians, RNs, and students. He/she shall have a plan for orientation that is approved by the clinic manager/s. The Lead will make all new employees feel welcome and comfortable in their new environment. He/she will help ensure that the orientees have the training necessary and mandatory competencies verified. He/she will be responsible for completing paperwork and access requests with the new staff as necessary. He/she will plan, document, and facilitate annual required training and/or in-services with manager/s approval. The Lead will provide feedback about orientation and the orientees to the clinic manager/s for adjustments as needed. He/she will help to provide feedback to peers in order to help them advance and improve their practice as necessary. The lead should be able to fill in for other LPNs during times of need, absences, and low staffing as indicated by their supervisor/management or at their discretion. That includes checking in patients, performing nursing appointments, assisting with alerts, and other clinical operations. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Exceptions include: Health care education in the military service or training in the military service that is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which licensed as qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure meets the education requirements. Individuals granted a license by a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school. Licensure: Full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the US, or District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: GS-7. The GS-7 grade level is for select, complex LPN/LVN positions, as established by each health care facility. To be advanced, employees must meet all of the following standards, provided the standard is part of their assignment. NOTE: Determinations concerning placement of positions at this grade level shall take into consideration the skill mix and the availability of supervision in the work unit. Although these positions are under the supervision of an RN and/or MD/DO, employees in such settings successfully and consistently demonstrate the exercise of independent technical judgment (without the need for readily available supervision), as well as a comprehensive and thorough working knowledge of the most complex or difficult practices and procedures. Such individuals may also serve as leaders or co-leaders in a nursing unit or for a specifically identified group of patients. Completion of at least 1 year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-6 level or equivalent, fully meeting all of the performance requirements for the GS-6 LPN/LVN. Knowledge and skills necessary to carry out more specialized patient care duties, including assignments in selected, more complex inpatient and/or outpatient care settings. Knowledge base promotes the incorporation of current patient care data in actively contributing to the development of the patient's overall health plan and in carrying out assigned nursing interventions. Positions at this grade level require broader knowledge and skills because supervision is more general and employees are expected to be involved to a greater degree in the development and modification of treatment plans. Ability to assist RN and/or MD/DO to appropriately prioritize overall patient care needs and adjust plans for care delivery. Makes astute observations of subtle, less obvious changes, both physical and emotional, in patient's condition, and accurately and thoroughly documents care delivered and patient's response to care that could require immediate modification of the patient's care plan.
