The major concern of this position is the maintenance of environmental sanitation within acceptable levels of bacteriological, as well, visual cleanliness throughout the health center and vacant quarters. This position is located in the Housekeeping Section of Chinle Service Unit, Tsaile Health Center, Tsaile, Arizona.
Duties
Due to Veteran Preference, no selection can be made of a non-Veteran Preference eligible unless the Veteran(s) were not responsive, declined interview/position or with an approved bypass. Documentation will be requested from the hiring manager. If the hiring manager wishes to pursue veteran preference bypass, a formal request will be made by the Hiring Manager. Proper documentation will need to be provided before selection of a non-Veteran Preference eligible is made.
Performs full range of cleaning functions in a hospital environment in assigned areas.
Empties wastebaskets, disinfects inside and outside of waste baskets, and relines with clean plastic bag.
Transports waste to the designated holding sites.
Replenishes paper supplies and liquid soap in dispensers.
Scrubs and/or strips floor surfaces with low speed floor machines and uses carpet extractor for cleaning carpets.
Cleans and inspects housekeeping equipment on scheduled basis; occasionally will perform as a Work Leader.
Performs special cleaning procedures for Surgical Suites, Obstetric Unit, Central Supply, Nursery and maintains isolation unit.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Skills and knowledge: Must be able to read sign, follow simple oral and written instruction, move around well enough to work safely, lift and move objects and must be able to use common cleaning tools and lightweight vacuum cleaners and use powered wax machines and buffers.
Must have the physical ability to handle and control heavy powered equipment.
Must be able to do all cleaning duties on own and without instructions.
They must know proper use of a variety of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions and must be able to remove different kinds of stains from variety of surfaces.
In addition, they must be able to clean and make adjustments to powered cleaning equipment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate heavy physical effort is sued occasionally in moving, setting up, and working from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently they must lift and move objects weighing about 18 kilograms (40 pounds), and occasionally objects weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually work indoors, in areas which normally have adequate heat, light and ventilation. They are exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritants from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
