Salary: $30 - 35 per hour

You will serve as a MASON in the Facilities Management & Sustainment Product Line PWD Oceana of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will make concrete repairs, and layout and form concrete slabs in preparation for pouring. You will make sheetrock repairs, install new sheet rock, and install and repair suspended ceilings. You will build forms for concrete structures such as ramps and steps and construct walls and partitions using wood or metal studs. You will install and repair ceramic tile flooring on walls and floors. You will set up and use a variety of hand and power tools such as drills, power saws, planers, and pneumatic nailers. You will use, select and substitute materials to meet the requirements of strength, durability, appearance and safety. You will repair exit devices, install new door closers, and prep doors for new hardware.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • May be assigned to perform tasks in non-trade related fields as an assistant/helper as workout requires.
  • May be required to serve as an on-call duty mechanic on a rotational basis. An on-call duty mechanic is required to carry a duty cell phone and a duty pager and must remain available to respond on site to after-hour emergencies within 2 hours.
  • Maybe assigned a truck stocked with controlled inventory and consumable materials. If assigned a stocked truck the incumbent is responsible for managing the material by following established procedure for inventory control and cost accounting.
  • Maybe be designed to receive work assignments from Regional Dispatch. If designated as a dispatched worker the incumbent is responsible for following established work dispatch procedures and processes.
  • Moderate lifting up to 40 pound is required. If a heavier lift is required, it must not be attempted without assistance. Must be able to work a rapid pace for a short period of time.
  • Occasionally required performing work by stooping, bending, and reaching while in cramped and uncomfortable positions and by walking, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds to perform work at various heights. Normal vision is required.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including 1) Making repairs to and removing broken concrete, 2) Finishing floors, walls, sills and other cement surfaces with trowels and floats, 3) Constructing walls using wood studs. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
