You will serve as a SUPERVISORY INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) of NMRTC LEMOORE CA.
This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will carry out supervisory functions, i.e. plan work assignments based on priorities; provide advice and instruction to employees; resolve employee complaints; identifies training needs; and evaluate performance.
You will conduct and direct the more unusual or difficult surveys and studies.
You will investigate and evaluate a variety of industrial operations to determine the presence and magnitude of occupational health hazards
You will establish procedures and provide state of the art technical training, information, guidance, and direction on industrial hygiene/toxicology matters.
You will advise management on the industrial hygiene aspects of facilities, equipment and operations.
You will develop procedures and guidelines to review program quality and responsiveness.
You will conduct quality assurance, provide training, mange personnel, and assure department meets all implemented goals.
You will interpret results of site survey in terms of the nature of health impairment, worker efficiency, and work nuisance and present recommendations.

The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; (Your transcripts must be attached.) Failure to submit a copy of your transcripts with your application will result in an ineligible rating. or
A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene;.(Your transcripts must be attached.) Failure to submit a copy of your transcripts with your application will result in an ineligible rating.or
Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (external link) (ABIH). (A copy of your license or registration must be attached) Failure to submit a copy of your license or registration with your application will result in an ineligible rating.
Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
Evaluation of Education - All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) as a professional engineering curriculum.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: professional Industrial Hygienist experience functioning in a supervisory or leadership role
Utilizing industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices to evaluate physical and chemical hazards;
Reviewing industrial hygiene surveys for accuracy and completeness;
Supervising and/or leading personnel and providing technical assistance, overseeing automated systems; AND
Providing quality assurance and training for personnel.

Certification in comprehensive practice by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) is not required, but highly desired.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
