About the Position: This position is with Letterkenny Army Depot, Directorate of Emergency Services - Fire & Emergency, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Duties

Supervise daily operations of an assigned firefighter crew. Sustain a constant state of readiness of a fire station. Participate in the planning and coordination of training. Prepare detailed reports of daily operation of a fire station.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must undergo pre-employment and recurring investigations to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis. May include mandatory overtime and recall to duty.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform and use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position has a requirement to lift over 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Must participate in a Cardiovascular fitness program.
  • Must successfully complete an annual job performance test.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work 72 hours per week, which may include weekends and holidays.

Additional information regarding Special Retirement coverage CSRS Retirement FERS Retirement In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Conducting training in firefighting/rescue procedures and techniques, 2) Coordinating training for firefighting crew. 3) Responding to fire, medical and hazardous material incidents, AND 4) Preparing detailed reports requested by higher authority i.e. training, incidents and inspections. NOTE: For most one-grade interval occupational series, the qualification standard calls for at least 1 year of specialized experience. Sometimes however, there is no position in the normal line of progression in an organization that is one grade lower than the position being filled. In such instances, 1 year of specialized experience at the second lower level (GS-08) is creditable for in-service applicants. However, for outside applicants (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service), 1 year of specialize experience equivalent to at least the next lower level is required. This position requires you to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (ProBoard) equivalent certifications: (Please note: All certifications must be uploaded at time of application.)
