This position is located within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Pacific West Area in Salinas, CA.
In this position you will, be involved in almost all phases of the scientist's study and has responsibility for selected phases or conducts test applications.
This is a term time-limited appointment with an initial duration of no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 4 years.
Duties
Prepares solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory, field, or greenhouse.
Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records.
Keeps detailed records of experimental data.
Tabulates, statistically analyzes, and summarizes field data using personal computers and software packages.
Support research on fungi using molecular biology tools.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

GS-8
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting in molecular biological research related to plant or fungi; collecting scientific data; and operating scientific equipment used to collect biological samples.
OR
Education: Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include molecular biology, plant pathology, mycology, ecology, or microbiology.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above

For this position, specialized experience is experience conducting molecular biological research related to plants or fungi; collecting and analyzing genomic sequence data; and operating and maintaining scientific equipment used to collect biological samples.

Education: Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include molecular biology, plant pathology, mycology, ecology, or microbiology.

A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above
