About the Position: Fort Liberty, formerly Fort Bragg, is a military installation of the United States Army in North Carolina and is one of the largest military installations in the world by population, with over 52,000 military personnel.
This position is for time limited temporary appointment on Intermit seasonal 20hr work schedule.
This position may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE one year and may be extended up to a maximum of three years.
Duties
Clearly explain concepts being taught and observe students for understanding.
Develop audio-visual tactile aides and set up lab demonstrations.
Serve as an interpreter for deaf and/or hearing impaired students.
Interprets teacher's directions and messages in sign language to students.
Distribute and collect testing materials as needed by students.
Provide supervision of and instruction to students on simple subject matter.
Requirements
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- One year trial or probationary period may be required.
- This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
- Sign Language Interpreter Certification required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience service which includes: utilizing American Sign Language to translate and interpret conversations, providing special education support, and developing audio-visual tactile aides for the hearing impaired. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06 or above).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this grade, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
