About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Order or load stocked medical items via automated systems to include, but not limited to the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support/Point of Use systems. Continually monitor storage systems to ensure that adequate stocks of medical supplies and materiel are on hand to meet customer demands. Receive and/or expedite medical supplies and material from the warehouse, prime vendor or vendors. Deliver stock to multiple storage sites located externally to Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC). Prepare, schedule, and coordinate turn-in(s) for proper destruction. Read, review, and verify information on accompanying documents (e.g., quantity, stock number, nomenclature, unit of issue, condition codes, date of pack, correct address for consignee and shipper, etc.). Verify and document the quantity and condition of medical supplies and materiel. Safely operate a forklift (4 ton) and government vehicle (up to 5 tons) to load and unload supplies/equipment and deliver to external clinics.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain Government drivers certification to operate vehicles or material handling equipment such as, forklift, stock picker, and/or electric pallet jack.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) duties. Can perform material receiving, storage, issuing, and preservation in a medical material warehouse. Can operate a forklift to load and unload medical supplies and material. Can use automated systems to prepare inventory and system reports and direct shipments to shipping or storage areas. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area where assigned or as directed by the supervisor. Work may require wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, rubber aprons. Type of protection will be determined by the work environment. Clothing and equipment include, but are not limited to the following: eye, respiratory and foot protection, protective clothing (gloves, apron, coveralls, scrubs, etc.) Other types may be required as deemed necessary by authorized management officials. Employee will be required to wear approved hearing protective devices and an audio metric test will be conducted, as necessary, when working near or around noise hazardous areas, machinery or equipment. Identification badges are required to ensure that staff is authorized access to assigned areas. Identifies and reports safety, environmental, and facility issues to their supervisor for processing. In addition, may also be exposed to dust, dirt, grease and solvents, and to high noise levels in mechanized work areas. When working with hazardous materials, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins or chemical fumes. Also at risk for the possibility of exposure due to infectious diseases from patient areas.
