About the Position:
This position is located at the Quantico, Prince William County, northeastern Virginia, U.S. DoDEA HQ Financial & Business Operations Directorate, Facilities Divsion. It lies along the Potomac River, about 35 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.
Duties
Track and reports progress on work assignments and adjusts worker assignments.
Assigns work to individuals and/or provide technical direction.
Work outside for general maintenance activities.
Maintains playgrounds, athletic fields, preparing fields for specific event, setting up and moving sports apparatus.
Performs seasonal gardening work such as planting and transplanting shrubbery, fertilizing, mulching, trimming.
Uses heavy powered equipment to maintain the lawn and grounds i.e., cutting grass, edging lawn.
Performs operator's maintenance on equipment, including changing oil, greasing, tightening loose screws.
Operates farm-type tractors and attached equipment to maintain grounds.
Operates motor vehicle ranging up to 10,000 pounds to transport supplies, equipment and/or materials.
Requirements
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- One year trial or probationary period may be required.
- Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
- One year supervisory probation period may be required.
- This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- A valid state driver's license is required.
- Work maybe done on 1st and 2nd shift.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Gardener Supervisor I without more than normal supervision. Applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: providing guidance on maintaining grounds; using lawn care equipment/machinery; and inspecting others work - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Requires very heavy physical effort such as frequently lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, running power mowers, and tiller (e.g., moving, setting up and working from ladders and scaffolds). Load moving equipment such as dollies, carts and wheelbarrows and is available to assist with heavy loads.
Working Conditions: Works outside in all kinds of weather and inside in areas that may be dusty, dirty, noisy and have other adverse working conditions. The equipment, tools and tasks involved frequently require special care to avoid serious injuries. Occasionally, is exposed to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, fertilizers, pesticides etc. and to serious injuries (e.g., broken bones) from falls from ladders and scaffolds.
