About the Position: This position is located with the US Army Sustainment Command, 406th AFSB, Logistics Readiness Center at Fort Drum, NY.
Duties
Utilize machinist bench and floor mounted equipment and hand tools to manufacture casings, forgings, weldments and other fabrications.
Perform electric arc and acetylene welding.
Complete tasks that require special adaptation and extension of the use of conventional machine tools.
Work with tools and equipment requiring extreme caution in maintaining close dimensions.
Requirements
- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
- Weather Essential, may be required to report to work in the event of severe weather conditions to prepare facilities for reopening.
- May be required to work Army Power Projection Platform (AP3) Operations utilizing a skill that is classified no higher than the current grade. Work may involve shift work, weekends, or holidays.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Machinist duties. I am skilled in (1) Manufacturing complex or non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals or metal alloys; (2) Performing machining operations, setting up, and operating conventional machine tools; (3) Skill in using trade methods and techniques on conventional machine tools. I work under close supervision of a work leader or a journey level employee who observes tasks in progress an upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves standing for prolonged periods of time, stooping, and bending. Lifting item weighing an average of 40 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside in areas that are noisy and dirty. Exposure to fumes, infrared, and ultraviolet radiation, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches, and heated materials, possibility of eye injury, electrical. shock, burns, broken bones, and the change of cuts when working with sharp objects. Discomfort when wearing protective clothing, gloves, and flash shield or eye goggles.
