This position is located at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in the Patient Call Center. Incumbent provides support and technical assistance in the management and administration of the reception of patients, scheduling of appointments and related call center functions for the hospital.
Duties
Responsible for the central management of the scheduling/appointing system. Schedules initial and follow-up appointments and missed appointments.
The incumbent works closely with all staff members performing the administrative details that are essential to the orderly and efficient accomplishment of the unit's goals.
Receives and greets visitors and telephone callers at the call center using tact and diplomacy.
Obtains identifying information to verify the eligibility of the patient for treatment. Collect and process patient information; explains paperwork required, clinical processes and answers inquiries regarding appointment and treatment policies, appointment scheduling, hours of operation, and services available
Ability to multi-task and navigate complex situations. Excellent communication skills, good listening skills and critical thinking skills.
Operates a computer terminal to enter, manipulate, and/or retrieve and extract data from computerized data system to schedule, change, and cancel appointments.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0679-05:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Serves as receptionist clerk, filing, mailing, taking minutes, faxing, provide excellent customer service, maintain incoming log of mails and update patients' demographic data.
OR;
Must have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level.
OR;
Have a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0679-06:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Schedule appointments, verify insurances and any other alternate resource, determine patient eligibility, screen claims, identify special cases, data entry, issue denials, obligate funds, familiarity with accounting for referrals, coding, medical terminology, reconcile claim status for financial report. Prepare appeal cases for review.
TYPING PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following typing skill. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
