About the Position: This position serves as a Mechanical Engineer within the Engineering Division. The Incumbent will be responsible for the design and technical review of mechanical systems related to Military and Civil Works facilities.

Duties

Evaluate mechanical system control schemes for clarity, completeness, accuracy, and/or energy efficiency. Review contractor shop drawings of mechanical equipment, devices, and/or systems for conformance. Select the most economic or least energy intensive mechanical system for engineering design projects. Design mechanical control systems that employ the most current industry best practices for energy efficiency enhancement. Develop plans/specifications for projects using Autodesk Revit Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Specintact software. Provide assistance in the negotiation of Architectural Engineering (A-E) contracts by preparing man-hour estimates for the design of mechanical systems. Provide technical review of mechanical systems to evaluate economic performance. Verify proper adherence to criteria and/or scope of work on contractor design, repair, maintenance, and/or construction of mechanical systems. Provide assistance in the negotiation of Architectural Engineering (A-E) contracts by preparing man-hour estimates for the design of mechanical systems.

  • Temporary Duty (TDY) Travel is required 25% of the time including overseas (OCONUS) travel.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-09. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.
