This position will serve as a Cook who provides quality food service to patients, employees, and guests through food preparation, service, and sanitation for the Pine Ridge Service Unit, Dietary Department in Pine Ridge, SD. The employee reports to the Supervisor of the department.

Duties

Prepares and cooks a variety of menu items including regular and special complex diet entrees and dessert items. Maintains a sanitary, safe working environment for employees and food production. Applies principles of proper storage of foods and supplies using first-in, first-out. Plans cooking processes to produce meals on time and at the proper temperature which may require coordination of cooking several items with different cooking times. Adjusts standardized recipes for the number of servings required in large quantity cooking.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for this position will be evaluated under the federal wage system job grading standards for WG-7404. No specific length of experience is required. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. Failure to meet the screen out element will result in an ineligible rating. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision as a Cook. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
