About the Position: Serves as Fisheries Assessment and Monitoring Section Chief, a technical staff element within the Planning Branch with primary responsibility for activities including investigations, analyses, and processes pertaining to fisheries, including habitat evaluations, invasive carp monitoring and telemetry, other special studies and research as assigned.
Duties
Manages section workload, assigns subordinate work, provides technical oversight, evaluates performance, enables employee development, and maintains necessary workforce to execute mission requirements.
Oversees assessment and monitoring activities associated with aquatic nuisance species program in coordination with state and federal agencies through the Invasive Carp Regional Coordinating Committee and the Monitoring and Response Work Group.
Serves as the District’s primary authority on matters related to detection, monitoring, removal, hydroacoustics, telemetry, modeling, contingency response, and behavioral deterrence of aquatic nuisance species (ANS).
Represents the District in the coordination of invasive carp related issues requiring extensive coordination with tribal, federal, state, and local agencies.
Serves as the primary authority for fisheries-related operations at all projects including inter-agency support and real-time operations related to multiple field crews equipment acquisition, use, storage and maintenance, and logistics.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience with fish techniques including electro-fishing and netting, working with live animals including the installation of Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tags, and conducting field work including being exposed to long hours in harsh conditions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
AND
Degree: Major in biological science that included:
At least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; and
At least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields. (Excess course work in aquatic subjects may be used to meet this requirement when appropriate.)OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
