Duties

Performs repairs incidental to calibration as required by equipment specifications. Selects, applies, and interprets electronic principles and practices as related to the specialty area as required to collect, reduce, display, analyze data. Assists and advises users in the instrument application, measurement accuracy, and recommended calibration requirements. Prepare reports to correct errors in existing procedures and provides technical information used in the decision making process for the development of documents used for TMDE certification. Prepare test and certification reports containing values, corrections, and/or uncertainties for calibrated instruments.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of occasional % of the time may be required.
  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment physical, and any post-employment physicals, as required.
  • Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds independently with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds with assistance.

Ability to do the work of an Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator, WG-3378-11 without more than normal supervision. A. The ability to perform the most difficult and complex duties of troubleshooting techniques to repair test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE), interpreting technical procedures and schematics, and applying electrical/electronic/electromagnetic theories in collecting measurement data. I am skilled in the use of instrument application, measurement accuracy, and calibration requirements for equipment. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. B. The ability to perform the full range of troubleshooting techniques to repair test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE), interpreting technical procedures and schematics, and applying electrical/electronic/electromagnetic theories in collecting measurement data. I am skilled in the use of instrument application and calibration requirements for equipment. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. C. The ability to perform common duties of repairing test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE), interpreting schematics, and applying electronic theories in collecting measurement data. I can assist in the use of instrument application and calibration requirements for equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. D. The ability to perform simple duties of assisting with the repair of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) or I have received training on electronic theories. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
