About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, at Fort Cavazos, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Initiate intake of new patients into the clinic by taking and recording vital signs, assembling a new patient record with all appropriate forms, and assisting patients in completion of questionnaires and other documentation. With direction from the physiatrist, provide and document treatments/procedures to include ultrasound, electrical stimulation, heat, cold, and hydrotherapy. Report any unusual reaction to treatment immediately to the physiatrist, keep the physiatrist apprised of patient progress and any changes in health status, and recognize and respond to emergencies according to prescribed emergency measures. Assist with clinic administrative activities such as requesting medical records, ordering and tracking supplies, coordinating scheduling, and verifying patient eligibility for treatment. At the physiatrist request, refer patient to other clinics or specialty areas. Maintain documentation regarding record requests, record releases, supplies ordered, and new patients scheduled.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• A pre-placement medical examination may be required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening may be required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Health Technician (Physical Medicine): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes taking vitals and conducting various clerical duties. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
