About the Position: Manages the Passport and Visa Office at U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Army Garrison, Florida. Coordinates all matters relating to official and diplomatic passports to include official visa requirements, travel documentation, status of military, civilian personnel including dependents and matters related to immigration documentation and requirements for travel overseas.

Duties

Manages the Passport and Visa Office at U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Army Garrison, Florida. Serves as procedural and authoritative source of information concerning original and official documentation in processing official/diplomatic passports. Examines applications and supporting documents for acceptability as proof of citizenship, identity and for official and diplomatic passports, appropriate authorization, entitlement, and information. Assists in writing or reviewing regulations and directives to disseminate policy and procedures for official travel within the U.S. Southern Command Area of Focus. Monitors workload status and indicators to assist in resolving operations, technical and administrative problems. Counsels' applicants on the requirements of obtaining a passport and/or visa. Advises applicants on the sources and types of documentation needed to establish proof of citizenship, residence, and/or identity.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Incumbent must obtain, within six months of employment, the U.S. Department of State Certificate of Designation certifying them as an authorized agent.
  • Must be able to travel and perform other passport and visa related duties outside the local area as assigned.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Experience that demonstrated knowledge of the nationality laws of the United States. Qualifying specialized experience may have been gained in work such as developing, examining, investigating, adjudicating, or authorizing claims arising under the nationality laws of the United States.
