You will serve as a Composite Worker in the MRO Production Department of FLTREADCEN EAST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will modify and repair structural parts of aircraft and skin surfaces of wings,fuselages,air foils,frames, ribs,bulkheads,tail sections,panels,etc. working from blueprints,technical directives,verbal instructions and composite rework procedures. You will examine damaged areas, both structural and non structural, to determine sequence of operations necessary for repair or replacement. You will disassemble fastened and bonded surfaces according to prescribed composite technique. You will make structural airframe repairs and install them by means of fasteners and bonded composite materials. You will fabricate, modify and repair a variety of aircraft parts and component subassemblies. You will work with a variety of metals and fibrous laminate materials, i.e., titanium, stainless steel, aluminum, fiberglass, plastics and carbon composites. You will set up and operate various standard industrial machines and equipment used in composite rework operations. You will use a variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Modifying and repairing structural parts of aircraft and skin surfaces of wings, fuselages, air foils, frames, ribs, bulkheads, tail sections, cow lings, fairings and panels, working from blueprints, technical directives, verbal instructions and composite rework procedures; 2) Examining damaged areas, both structural and non structural, to determine sequence of operations necessary for repair or replacement; 3) Disassembling fastened and bonded surfaces according to prescribed composite technique; 4) Makes structural airframe repairing and installing structural airframe by means of fasteners and/or bonded, composite materials; 5) Using appropriate sealants and adhesives as required fabricating and making structural repairs to metal and laminated type structures.
