The United States Space Force is a military service that organizes, trains, and equips space forces in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force. USSF responsibilities include developing Guardians, acquiring military space systems, maturing the military doctrine for space power, and organizing space forces to present to our Combatant Commands.

Duties

Mission: The mission of Delta 9 is to prepare, present, and project assigned and attached forces for the purpose of conducting protect and defend operations and providing national decision authorities with response options to deter and, when necessary, defeat orbital threats. Additionally, Delta 9 supports Space Domain Awareness by conducting space-based battle-space characterization operations and conducts on-orbit experimentation and technology demonstrations for the U.S. Space Force. Purpose: Manage the Delta 9 Mission Protection campaigns and activities for planning, developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating the effectiveness of operational projects and programs for the squadron.

  • General background of Mission Protection, Satellite Operations, and/or Orbital Analysis experience is highly desirable.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • Employee is in a designated position that requires consent and thereafter be subject to and successfully complete, an initial, periodic and random counterintelligence (CI)-scope polygraph examination as a condition of employment.
  • Polygraph examinations are considered current when administered within the past five years.
  • Experience with USAF and/or USSF Intelligence is highly desirable.
  • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty to include nights, weekends, overtime and holidays.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Position may include additional program security requirements in order to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Direct Deposit: All federal employees are required to have direct deposit.
  • The duties of this position meets all requirements as a category 4 designation, and shall not be vacated during a national emergency
  • or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively.
  • This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CANNOT become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve,")

Qualifications

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include Defining solutions to highly complex problems; analyzing issues to report findings of projects; guiding technical and programmatic work of team members in comparable junior grades; evaluating detailed mission protection plans, goals, and objectives for implementation of assigned program(s)/project(s). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of concepts, principles, and practices of mission protection functions to include all-source analysis of complex, multidisciplinary programs, understanding of intelligence community organizations and roles and responsibilities, familiarity with mission analysis and similar application tools, resolving major conflicts in space superiority operations, space systems acquisition, integration, launch and operations. 2. Understanding of orbital mechanics for orbit determination and trajectory propagation, along with the ability to think in 3-dimensions and visualize/describe basic Keplerian motion by using standard software applications implementing orbital mechanics (e.g., Systems Tool Kit). Involves planning, developing, and carrying out vital administrative or scientific software programs that are essential to missions' execution. 3. Ability to plan, coordinate, or advise on work efforts, or to resolve operating problems by influencing or motivating individuals or groups who are working toward mutual goals. The work involves planning, developing, and carrying out vital administrative processes. Can also communicate effectively both orally and in writing; negotiate complex issues; and maintain good working relationships. 4. Familiarity of military (including command level) program goals and objectives; the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones; methods of evaluating the effectiveness of planning actions related to actual events; and the relationship of the various command entities involved in overall program planning and execution of military operations and evaluations. 5. Knowledge of the application of military space operations expertise as they apply to programs and weapons systems. 6. Ability to plan, organize, and negotiate effectively with the Chief Analyst and Delta 9 Leadership to accept and implement recommendations, where proposals involve substantial resources, and require extensive changes in established concepts and procedures. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
