About the Position: Serves as a Lead Police Officer for the Military Ocean Terminal located at Sunny Point Army Terminal in Southport, North Carolina.

Duties

Serves as the Team Leader who is an assistant to the Supervisory Police Officer. Responds to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service. Exercise search and apprehension authority, detain witnesses, apprehend suspects, interview witnesses and other persons involved, determine whether facts warrant apprehension or lesser action. Participate in antiterrorism committees and fusion cells and directly protect critical resources to include Arms, Ammunition and Explosives, and other classified objects moving through the Military Ocean Terminal via rail, ship or vehicle. Conduct waterside security patrols of U.S. Military, non-military, and foreign ships at berth which may contain explosives; associated equipment used for loading and unloading vessels at berth; three wharves and other waterfront facilities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass weapons qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass first aid/CPR certification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements. requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56; successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56; pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • This position is Mission Essential. This position requires a Secret Clearance.
  • Incumbent must possess a state driver's license and a government driver license.
  • Basic Crew Member, Boat Search and Rescue and Tactical Operator, Boat safety and MOT personnel qualification standard courses.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) is required less than 25% of the time. This is a "Key" position.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercise of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Must obtain one of the following U.S. Coast Guard licenses: Small Boat Captains Operator of -Un-Inspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) License, U.S. Army Marine Certification, or a Military Ocean Terminal Harbor Patrol Coxswain appointment within a year.
  • Boat crew members must complete a swim assessment within 2 years.
  • Boat crewmembers must complete Basic Maritime Officers, Advanced Basic Maritime Officers, and Rescue Boat Operations National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) courses.
  • Boat crewmembers must complete Basic Crew Member, Boat Search and Rescue and Tactical Operator, Boat safety course and Military Ocean Terminal personnel qualification standard.
