These positions are located in Grand Canyon National Park, in the Resource Management Division.
This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of 10 years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
Duties
This position is located at Grand Canyon National Park. The purpose of the position is to design, coordinate, and execute complete conventional projects using highly complex techniques and unusual skill, participate responsibly with the unit scientist or resource specialist in most phases of the research or biological resource management process, and/or administratively maintain a significant function or area of responsibility on an ongoing basis. The incumbent will be hired to work on a funded project involving revegetation and natural resource support.
Major Duties:
Independently develop various aspects of inventory, monitoring, restoration projects and management of biological resources based on overall objectives outlined by the supervisor.
Contribute to the planning of various steps in the projects listed and documentation findings, implements biological resource management actions as a result of research and monitoring recommendations such as exotic vegetation control, vegetation management, restoration work, riparian protection, etc.
Safely lead field crews conducting invasive plant control, habitat restoration, and plant propagation projects using a variety of methods in accessible and remote natural settings.
Safe handling and application of herbicides to target invasive plants.
Collect, review, and utilize Global Positioning System (GPS) and geographic information system (GIS) data.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-05/10/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: leading and conducting field crews in habitat restoration tasks (i.e., plant salvage, native seed collection, site preparation, seeding, planting, mulching, irrigating, invasive plant control) in accessible and remote natural settings; identifying native and non-native plant species; collecting and managing field data according to standard protocols; surveying, mapping and documenting plant populations using GPS handheld devices; handling and applying herbicides; assisting with hazard tree assessment and removal actions; leading field crews in plant propagation activities in greenhouse and/or nursery settings; researching and compiling botany inventory data; considerable knowledge of technical methods and procedures of biological resource practices with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Wilderness Act, and the Endangered Species Act; and planning or conducting ecological restoration or invasive plant management. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two full years of graduate education leading to a master's degree directly related to the work of this position. Examples of acceptable major study areas include: natural resources management, biology, ichthyology, zoology, wetland ecology, aquatic resource management, or other majors directly related to the position. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and specialized experience. Only graduate credits in excess of first year (18 semester credits) of graduate school is applicable. For example: 6 months of specialized experience such as above, (50% of the required specialized experience) and 27 semester credits of appropriate graduate study (50% of graduate credits towards 2nd year of graduate school) equal 100 percent. You must include hours worked on resume and provide a copy of your transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
