You will serve as an Equipment Specialist in the Public Works Business Line, Transportation Product Line, Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) Coordinator Branch, Northeast Program Division of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will analyze technical data for the assessment of weight handling equipment to interpret their operation and predict potential problems. You will supply technical information on equipment issues or influence decision making that support operations. You will verify the weight handling equipment program is in compliance with policies and regulations to support operations. You will brief from prepared reports to management presenting status or information. You will compose written correspondence explaining technical requirements and actions proposed to solve problems.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This position is not eligible for Telework.
  • The incumbent may occasionally be recalled after hours and/or weekends to provide surveillance and oversight or to assist in investigating crane and rigging accidents occurring on NAVFAC MIDLANT installations.
  • Occasional site visits are required.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. 1) Knowledge of the characteristics, properties, uses, and interrelationships of assigned components, assemblies and/or sub-assemblies relating to Weight handling Equipment WHE; 2) Knowledge of codes, regulations, and standards relating to WHE ; 3) Strong background in the proper use of WHE systems as they pertain to industry standards; and 4) Ability to read and compose complex technical reports, interpret and evaluate blueprints, work orders, and other technical documentation. Education

Applicants may qualify with the following education in lieu of the specialized experience qualification:

Successful completion of a Ph.D.or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR
Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
OR
Successful completion of an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
OR
a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience must equal one hundred percent.
