THIS IS AN INDIANA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION This position is part of the IN CSMS 1, Indiana National Guard under Position Description Number D1226000. If you would like the complete list of duties, please contact the POC of this announcement.

Duties

Performs overhaul, maintenance, and repair on a variety of small arms that involve numerous parts, subassemblies, adjustments, and must be adjusted to close tolerances. Disassembles weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components. Uses hand and power tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments to small arms. Ensures the accountability, storage, and security of arms and other sensitive items while they are kept for repair, usually in vaults with limited access. May serve as a commodity inspector during Command Maintenance Management evaluations (COMET) or as a member of a Maintenance Assistance Instruction Team (MAIT). Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This position is INDEFINITE NTE 24 months, with possible extension up to 60 months, and permanent potential.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

Qualifications

MILITARY GRADES: E4 through E8 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates a working knowledge to read and interpret instructions, repair manual, specifications, and drawings; must have a knowledge of shop mathematics sufficient to use testing devices and measuring instruments; and be proficient in the use and maintenance of hand tools and equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates ability to work effectively and efficiently on weapons and mechanical systems in disassembly for repair, inspection to diagnose mechanical malfunctioning, wear and/or damage is required. Experience in adjustment of levers, gear linkages and synchronization of interrelated mechanical systems. Experience in applying technical manuals, regulations, specifications, and drawings to determine operation, assembly, and a tolerance of the variety of weapons cleaned, repaired, and modified, is required. Experience in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and gages is required. Tools include drills, files, saws, hammers, vises, and precision gages and measuring instruments such as micrometers, optical comparators, ultrasonic checkers, magnafluxing machines and/or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damaged beyond acceptable tolerances. Specialized Experience Requirements for NGB Federal Wage System Positions for claiming civilian job experience: Creditable experience must have been performed at least 30 consecutive days and be properly documented. Experience in the same line of work can only be credited on the basis of a regular 40-hour workweek. Hours per week MUST be documented on resume to receive any credit.
