About the Position: This position is located at the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma Washington. The Madigan Army Medical Center, located on Joint Base Lewis-McChord just outside Lakewood, Washington, is a key component of the Madigan Healthcare System and one of the largest military hospitals on the West Coast of the United States.

Duties

The Representative provides counseling and information regarding benefits and/or resources provided by Army and outside social services such as the Army emergency relief, Red Cross, and Veterans Administration. Interview the parent(s) of children born in this medical center to obtain all data required to complete the State of Washington Certificate of Birth. Interview next of kin of patients who expired in this medical center to obtain all the data needed to complete the State of Washington Certificate of Death. Exercise tact and diplomacy when interacting with family members of recently deceased patients. Prepare required documentation to transfer remains to the respective medical examiner's office. Ensure copies of medical records are made and forwarded to the applicable Medical Examiner's Office. Prepare a variety of correspondences, ensuring correct format, spelling, punctuation, and arrangement. Compile information from a variety of databases to provide statistical data.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation (NACI) (Tier 1).
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Required to be screened for applicable immunizations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05 or above). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
