This position is located in Channel Islands National Park, in the Facilities Management & Transportation Division. Housing is not available. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Duties

Transport and assist scientific parties in locating intended sites in order that research can be conducted. Loads and off-loads supplies and equipment needed to conduct research. Oversee and manage all aspects of operations, such as proper navigational operations, safety of cargo and personnel, proper loading of cargo, determinations as to whether or not to operate in certain sea and/or weather conditions. Make periodic inspections of vessel and recommends repairs to be made during annual yard haul-outs. Supervises and inspects yard work while in progress. Maintain vessel in good, safe operating condition by making minor adjustments and repairs as needed. Purchases fuel, oil and all parts and supplies as necessary for vessel operations. Pick up incoming supplies and equipment and is responsible for delivery to and loading aboard vessel. Responsible for off-loading of supplies and equipment from vessel at destination points.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: SELECTIVE FACTOR: Must possess and maintain a U.S. Coast Guard 100 ton Marine License AND: To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of Small Craft Operator (Boat Captain), WG-5786-12, position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT) Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Operation of Motor Vehicles Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Work Practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Dexterity and Safety If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
