Duties

The incumbent of this position serves as a Health Scientist. The duties and responsibilities of this position include: Manage all activities related to assigned cases of alleged research misconduct in biomedical research studies. Review institutional investigative reports of research misconduct for completeness and consistency with regulations. Conduct preliminary assessments of alleged research misconduct to determine if further action is needed. Ensure that information is provided to leadership and colleagues in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Basic Requirement: You must meet one of the items listed below: Possess a bachelors or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (Must provide transcripts) Specialized Experience: GS-12: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing (3) of the (4) duties listed below: Conducting biomedical research; Conducting experimental laboratory techniques; Developing and/or writing formal scientific reviews, reports, and/or recommendation documents; Providing briefings to senior staff and/or others related to biomedical research. GS-13: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing (3) of the (4) duties listed below: Developing plans to evaluate institutional investigations into allegations of misconduct in biomedical research; Evaluating the evidence to support a finding of research misconduct and recommends administrative actions; Performing scientific and administrative reviews and/or analyses of allegations of research misconduct; Developing procedures for evaluating and documenting scientific evidence in investigations, including forensic analyses of scientific data.
