The primary purpose of this position is to Assist the GSSO as a Security Specialist and Security Advisor, providing oversight and management of personnel security in support of the Wing Advanced Program Office (APO). Also, to monitor and implement established security management and personnel and reports security programs.

Duties

Resolves a wide variety of complex security clearance problems that require choosing alternative responses through coordination with unit security managers, DoD Central Adjudication Facility, Defense Security Service (DSS), Office of Personnel Management (OPM), higher headquarters, etc. Assists in the overall management of the Information Security Program. Reviews, establishes, and maintains Security Information Files (SIFs). Assists in the administration of the Security Education and Training Program for information, personnel, and industrial security programs. Performs administrative office support functions and maintains cooperative working relationships with unit security managers, supervisors, operating officials, and unit commanders.

  • Typing and computer operation is performed, however, a qualified typist is not required.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, to include the Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for the GS Security Clerical and Assistance Series 0086. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes practical knowledge of specialized security methods, rules, regulations, principles, and procedures to resolve a wide range of problems and perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard security assignments such as determining the kinds of information and supporting data required, and criteria to be applied, in clearance adjudication processes; evaluating derogatory information to determine if a Security Information Files (SIF) must be established; and ensuring that the SIF includes all supporting data required to complete adjudication determinations. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of common and specialized security methods, rules, regulations, and principles to provide technical work and assist security specialists in security administration, and perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard security assignments and resolve problems. Knowledge of procedures, forms, and information and confidentiality requirements related to sensitive personal information to request security investigations and submit to the appropriate government agency. Knowledge of what constitutes derogatory information, the supporting data required to complete adjudication determinations, and understanding of clearance adjudication processes and the information/criteria required. Knowledge of one or more automated databases associated with a specific security function to recognize, locate, and insert data/information; support office and security operations; and produce a variety of documents and reports. Ability to plan and organize work, follow instructions, and accomplish multiple ongoing projects; and ability to locate, assemble, and compose information for reports, inquiries, and limited technical correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, using a high degree of tact and diplomacy. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
