The Richard L. Roudebush VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Full-time, Permanent, Housekeeping Aid Supervisor. This position will be located in the Environmental Management Service at the Indianapolis VA Medical Center.
Duties
Responsible for all environmental sanitation operations in Environmental Management Service (EMS).
Supervises Wage Grade, Wage Leader and Incentive Therapy Program and Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) patients.
Assures that special projects, periodic cleaning operations and specific moves are completed in a timely manner.
Will required to provide supervisory coverage on holidays, weekends and off tours.
Reports to the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor "General Foreman" from whom he/she receives general, technical and specific instruction.
Aided by VA directives and technical publications governing environmental sanitation operations.
Primary functions to be supervised include, but not limited to the following: All surface maintenance programs (floors, walls, lights, windows, etc.), terminal cleaning, odor abatement, and noise abatement.
Functions with which he/she must be familiar to assure adequacy of operations include, but not limited to the following: Insect and rodent control, bacterial monitoring and recording, supply and equipment and procedures, linen and uniform supply, equipment and supply test and evaluation, systematic review, equipment and supply test and evaluation, systematic review, equipment and supply relations, and the patient clothing room.
Assist in maintaining the facility by placing work orders when a discrepancy detected by himself/herself, or another employee is noted.
Primary responsibility for the basic and on-going training of personnel. Assists in division training programs, provides training to employees working either independently or in conjunction with programs formulated on a service-wide basis.
Career development of subordinates is a requirement of this position.
Constantly reviews the work of his/her subordinates to ensure that quality standards and production schedules are being maintained.
Take corrective action of deficiencies, which are noted on observation reports.
Ensures that all reports such as time and attendance, 2162, CA-1, CA-2, etc., are completed accurately and turned in within the allotted time frame.
Attends all meetings in a punctual manner.
Assures quality assurance inspections are conducted weekly as well as addressing all quality assurance reports.
When the incumbent has regular access to printed and electronic files containing sensitive data which must be protected under the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974, and other applicable laws, Federal regulations and VA statues and policy.
Plans monthly work schedules allowing for flexibility to meet any unexpected production demands.
Established deadlines and priorities, ensuring that quality and production standards are being met.
Determines how many assignments can be accomplished in the same time frame, or which ones would have to be delayed.
Assures that material, equipment, and supplies are available.
Must be flexible and available to facilitate the completion of special projects which may be planned and scheduled for completion on odd tours of duty.
Explains work requirements, methods and procedures as needed.
Coordinates work operations with the supervisors of other units, organizations and functions.
Promotes and administers a variety of management programs for the units supervised, such as safety, incentive awards, beneficial suggestions, and quality assurance, within policies and procedures established by higher authority.
Assures that subordinates effectively carry out policies to achieve management objectives.
Initiates recommendations for promotion or reassignment of subordinates.
Makes formal appraisals of subordinates work performance and determines training needs.
Schedules and approves leave requests of subordinates.
Counsels employees, and adjusts informal complaints and grievances through discussion with employees and union representatives, and initiates disciplinary actions as needed.
Work Schedule: 7:00am to 3:30pm, 3:00pm to 11:30pm, We have 3rd shifts,11:00pm to 7:30am, and weekend tours 7:00am to 3:30pm and 3:00pm to 1130pm. Please note this is a 24/7 operation and placement will be made to meet the requirements of the service.

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions: Must be able to physically perform all tasks assigned to subordinate employees, such as moving and controlling heavy machine equipment, carry, set up and work from ladders, lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must constantly practice proper body mechanics when stooping, climbing or lifting. Must be able to physically stand continuous walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing and lifting. Must be understanding and tolerant of the temperament of hospital patients. Remain alert and adhere strictly to established aseptic cleaning procedures to insure rigid control of disease producing organisms.
Work is normally performed inside where there is ample light, heat and/or ventilation. Temperatures vary from hot in the summer to cold in the winter when traveling between buildings. Incumbent is intermittently exposed to excess humidity, chemicals and solvents, fumes, dust and noise. Incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, punctures, minor shocks, and other injuries normally associated with cleaning tasks. Incumbent is exposed to dirt, bacteria and disagreeable odors.
