The Central Texas VA Health Care System, Temple, Texas is seeking Podiatrist (Urology-Section Chief) responsible for the delivery of Urology care throughout the medical center in meeting and exceeding compliance standards.
Duties
The Urology Section Chief will perform administrative duties and with surgical procedures in the operating room and specialty clinical services within Surgical Services.
Additional duties include:
Reviewing and triaging outpatient and inpatient consultations within the required timeframe for new patients. Participate in ward/ICU rounds and any other relevant activities as necessary for initial and follow-up patient care.
Follow each patient through the full continuum of care process to include admissions, discharges, performing histories and physicals when pre-surgical evaluation is not available, requesting and writing orders for diagnostic tests and procedures for pre-op, prior to surgery, and completing informed consents as required.
Responsible for educating patients and family members. The Section Chief will provide a monthly call schedule to the surgical administrative section each month and will participate in the rotation of on-call duties per on-call schedule; night, weekend and holiday call may be required. The surgeon will adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, and all other required medical documentation.
Ensure the most effective delivery of care while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission, VA Central Office performance measure standards and other external peer reviews.
Train and provide supervision for medical students and residents in all aspects of their surgery rotations as required. CTVHCS is affiliated with Texas A&M Health Science Center, and applicants should be qualified for academic appointments.
Transfer and receive external Veteran patients from other facilities as appropriate. Urologist may be required to provide "medical advisory opinions", and "internal and external" Peer Reviews.
Attend surgical and medical staff meetings, complete all required Talent Management System (TMS) trainings, must complete all medical documentation in a timely manner as directed by the Veterans Health Administration and local CTVHCS policies.
Adhere to and follow all VA policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure patient safety and ensure high quality of care is provided to Veterans.
Provide mid-year reviews (if required) and write annual performance appraisals and proficiency reports on assigned employees.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Degree of doctor of podiatric medicine, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Licensure or Registration. Applicants must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice podiatry medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training. Podiatrists must have completed residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.
Approved residencies are:(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.
Preferred Experience:
Board Certified/Board Eligible in Urology
Ability to provide medical opinions in medical specialties.
Operative surgeon - Robot Surgery experience desired.
3-5 years of Medical Facility Leadership experience.

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable (at 13" to 16" to jaeger 1 to 4), far vision correctable ( in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other), hearing (aid permitted), emotional and mental stability, and clear speech.
Education
Applicants must possess a doctor of podiatric medicine degree, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
