About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25.
You may need to complete a 3 year probationary period, if applicable.
This position is with 7th Signal Command, 21st Signal Brigade, 302nd Signal Battalion, located at Camp Roberts, California.
Duties
Serve as a Security Guard who functions as the first layer of defense in a security-in-depth concept to deter, detect, delay, assess, respond, and document unauthorized access to Army installations restricted to the general public.
Responsible for preserving the life, health and safety of government personnel and safeguarding Army property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction.
Perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures (SOPs), written orders and regulatory requirements as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances.
Stand at fixed entry gate checkpoints, inspecting vehicles and personnel for proper identification upon arrival/departure from the installation.
Conduct search of persons and vehicles entering the installation as directed by the Chief of Police, preventing illegal weapons and contraband from entering the installation.
Maintain traffic control at the entry points to the installation.
Responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
Operate and perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
Requirements

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- Must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- All weapons training and qualifications will be conducted IAW AR 190-56 The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
- Must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must successfully complete security guard training.
- Must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid statedrivers license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- This position is designated as Key. The position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the mission.

Specialized experience would be demonstrated by the basic ability to read and comprehend laws, regulations, and policies; experience in security of or knowledge related to security of installation, persons, property, or facilities; and the ability to conduct walking or mobile patrol to identify possible intrusions or criminal activity.
