The Sounding Rockets Program Office (SRPO) is responsible for the management, implementation, and direction of the NASA Sounding Rockets Program (NSRP). The NSRP supports NASA's Science Mission Directorate by proving 16-20 suborbital sounding rocket launch opportunities every year from launch sites around the world. As a Mission Manager, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of missions through the entire mission lifecycle and will have comprehensive team leadership responsibilities.

Duties

Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee. Work with the Principal Investigator (PI) to define appropriate comprehensive and minimum success criteria for the mission and verify mission requirements are being met throughout the execution of the mission. Support the formulation of the mission, develop/own requirements matrix, develop/own project schedules, schedule/lead team meetings, schedule/lead reviews, compile technical documentation for reviews, and manage operations. Provide implementation and oversight for the Sounding Rockets Program Office (SRPO) risk management process while executing mission operations. Ensure missions are conducted in accordance with NASA safety requirements and established standards. Coordinate all mission support requirements between the mission/experiment team and all other project stakeholders (SRPO operations team, other Wallops organizations, etc.) to ensure successful mission execution and data collection. Serve as the technical monitor for Mission Task Order(s) (MTO) and report to the NASA Sounding Rocket Operations Contract (NSROC) Contracting Officers Representative on the NSROC contractor mission team's performance on meeting MTO requirements. Coordinate and direct field operations to execute final mission integration and launch operations. Travel to domestic and international sounding rocket launch ranges such as White Sands Missile Range (New Mexico), Poker Flat Research Range (Alaska), Australia, Kwajalein, Norway and Peru to lead field operations (i.e. integration, testing, launch). Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Working with interdisciplinary teams in the execution of engineering projects/subprojects; Participating in various activities related to project planning/coordination or engineering efforts to meet project and mission requirements; Reporting statuses throughout the project lifecycle. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Leading or supporting interdisciplinary teams in the development of products, instruments, technologies, or systems; Managing or coordinating various projects or tasks to meet project and mission requirements; Providing technical or project guidance on engineering projects or tasks. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
