This is a developmental position, comprised of three (3) levels: Level 1 - Lifeguard Trainiee - this is an entry level position for those without current certifications. Level 2 - Lifeguards - ensures the safety of the patrons in the swimming pools, enforcing rules, regulations and providing assistance as needed. Level 3 - Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor (WSI) - teaches a variety of level swim classes, ensuring safety of the students and enforcing rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, without a fixed schedule. When outdoors sun and eye irritation exposure may occur.
  • Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays when the need arises.
  • Level 1: Must obtain the following certification within 30 days of hire: Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional and Standard First Aid by the American Red Cross or equivalent.
  • Wearing of protective clothing and equipment may be required as situations warrant.
  • May be required to lift and carry swimmers varying in weight and size.
  • Must be ready to respond to emergency situations at all times.

Qualifications

Level 1: Lifeguard Trainee Must perform a 300-yard continuous swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or combination of both. Swimming in the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed. Must tread water for two (2) minutes without support and without stopping. When treading, only the legs can be used. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits. The head must remain above the surface of the water. Must swim distance of 20 yards with a 10-pound object at a depth of seven (7) to ten (10) feet. Goggles are not allowed for this event. Within one (1) minute and forty (40) seconds, must be able to do all of the following: swim 20 yards, starting in the water (the face may be out of the water), surface dive, feet first or head-first, to a depth of seven (7) to ten (10) feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim twenty (20) yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath (may not swim the distance under water), exit the water without using a ladder or steps. Level 2: Lifeguard Must be currently certified n Lifeguard Training/CPR for the Professional (Title 22) and Standard First Aid by the American Red Cross or equivalent. Ability to pass both a skills and written test and swim 300 yards. Ability to size up emergencies and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to understand and comprehend rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to maintain excellent public relations and capably exercise control over a group of people. Uses tact when interacting with the public and staff. Understands, practices and teaches water safety, emergency response and life support. Level 3: Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Must be currently certified n Lifeguard Training/CPR for the Professional (Title 22) and Standard First Aid by the American Red Cross or equivalent. Ability to pass both a skills and written test and swim 500 yards. Successfully demonstrates swimming technique for basic strokes. Ability to size up emergencies and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to understand and comprehend rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to maintain excellent public relations and capably exercise control over a group of people. Uses tact when interacting with the public and staff. Understands, practices and teaches water safety, emergency response, self-survival and life support. Knowledge, practice and compliance with safe handling, storage and disposal policies related to hazardous materials and bio-hazardous materials. Routinely uses personal protection equipment provided.
