About the Position: This position is located at the Blue Grass Army Depot, in Richmond Kentucky.

Duties

Obtains prescribed paint including gloss, semi-gloss and special paints; enamels; varnishes; stains; lacquers; and shellac. Thins paint to proper consistency for spray gun application, determines proper spray nozzle to obtain desired pattern and air-paint mixture; applies prime, intermediate and final coats, ensuring adherence to quality standards. Performs first echelon maintenance on painting equipment such as cleaning paint guns, paint pots, hoses, and other related equipment with cleaning solvent. Operates electrical, mechanical and/or pneumatic machines, equipment, tools, fixtures or jigs. Operates electric and gasoline forklifts.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Non-Sensitive background clearance for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires lifting up to 100 pounds and a pre-employment physical and annual physical thereafter is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing during employment
  • Use of a respirator is required during painting operations. Protective clothing and equipment appropriate for each operation are posted and required.
  • The incumbent of this job is subject to the training, qualification, certification and retraining requirements of AMC-R 350-4 for operations personnel involved in conventional ammunition operations.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

The duties include painting a variety of surfaces, including exterior and interior of items, performing limited assembly or disassembly of items, obtaining prescribed paint, thinning paint, selecting proper nozzles, performing maintenance on painting equipment, paint guns, paint pots, hoses and other related equipment. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Physical Efforts: Work involves lifting, carrying and handling of heavy objects routinely weighing 25 to 40 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Work requires standing for extended periods of time on hard surfaces, stooping, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work requires moderate muscular effort and dexterity, use of both hands, and hand-eye coordination. Working Conditions: Work is done inside and outside, in maintenance buildings, warehouses, igloos, open areas, and in paint booths. Dirt, fumes and spray are usually present. Work is sometimes performed around greasy and noisy machines. Protective clothing and equipment appropriate for each operation are posted and required. Incumbent is exposed to paint and paint fumes, stencil ink, solvents and paint thinners when performing painting duties. Use of a respirator is required during painting operations. Subject to mashed fingers, broken extremities, cuts and abrasions from tools, conveyors, machines, falling or dropped stock, and hazards associated with handling explosive loaded materials.
