This Interdisciplinary - Historian-Museum Curator position is located at the Sainte Genevieve National Historical Park located in Sainte Genevieve, Missouri.

Duties
This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of 4 years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.
Some of the duties you will perform will include, but are not limited to:
Serves as the cultural resource subject matter expert in the park, advising the superintendent and park staff on matters related to cultural resource disciplines.
Manages the cultural resource program, overseeing compliance, research, resource monitoring, and museum, archival, and library collections.
Manages the museum, archival, and library collections to NPS standards and guidelines, and coordinates documentation, preservation, protection, exhibition, and use of those collections.
Conducts research on park cultural and historic resources, and prepares reports, journal articles, and/or books from that research.
Performs or directs cultural resources project work or research, establishing requirements and priorities, developing and managing work plans, schedules, scopes of work, and budget, and developing strategies to reach short- and long-term park and program goals.
Other duties will also include representing the park and the superintendent on matters related to cultural resources and resource stewardship issues with internal and external audiences. Work with partners and stakeholders to carry out resource stewardship goals. Represent the park on NPS national or regional task groups or at agency meetings. Make presentations in parks, public gatherings, and professional meetings. Establish and maintain working relationships with other federal, state, and local government agencies, tribes, and the public.
Area Information: Sainte Genevieve is a city in Sainte Genevieve Township and is the county seat of Sainte Genevieve County, Missouri, located along the west bank of the Mississippi River near the Illinois state line along Interstate 55, U.S. Route 61, and Missouri Route 32. Sainte Genevieve is approximately 46 mi (74 km) south-southeast of St. Louis and 196 mi (315 km) north-northwest of Memphis, Tennessee. The population was 4,410 at the 2010 census. Founded after 1735 by French Canadian colonists and settlers from east of the river, it was the first organized European settlement west of the Mississippi River in present-day Missouri. The park was established October 30, 2020, and is engaged in planning and information gathering. The park's mission focuses on preservation, protection, and interpretation of the site through partnership and coalition.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/29/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
This position may be filled in any one of the following professional occupational series: Historian, GS-0170, or Museum Curator, GS-1015. You must meet the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's (OPM), Basic Requirements for each series you wish to be considered for, AND also meet OPM's Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific positions.
Basic Requirements for Historian 0170:
A. A degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
-OR-
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Evaluation of Graduate Education - Graduate study in the social sciences or humanities may also be credited when such study included training in historical research methodology; or the thesis approached the subject from an historical viewpoint and used professional historical research methodology and techniques in its preparation.
Basic Requirements for Museum Curator 1015:
A. A degree in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field.
-OR-
B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
-OR-
C. Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown in A above.
-AND- To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following OPM's Qualification Standards by close of the announcement:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of qualifying specialized experience includes but is not limited to:evaluating proposals, undertakings, and other projects to determine cultural resources impacts in at least two areas including historic structures, cultural landscapes, archaeological sites or ethnographic resources; makes and recommends the cultural resource compliance pathway and mitigations as required under the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA); prepares written documents such as Section 106 NHPA and tribal consultation letters, uses a database to document cultural resource concerns; helps to develop scopes of work and government cost estimates for cultural resources projects; researches and assists management with Cooperative Agreements, Interagency Agreements, and Memoranda of Understanding. You must provide hours per week and to/from dates (month/year) on your resume.

Education: Three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Combo Education and Experience: Successful completion of a combination of education and specialized experience as described above. NOTE: Only graduate level education in excess of two years may be combined with experience. To calculate your percentage of qualifying graduate education, divide your number of semester hours in excess of 36 semester hours by 18 or the number your school uses to represent one year of full time graduate academic study. To calculate your percentage of experience, divide your months of qualifying specialized experience by 12. Add the two percentages. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must provide copies of your transcripts and the hours per week and to/from dates (month/year) on your resume.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
