The Engineering Transportation section is seeking a full-time Motor Vehicle Operator for the Huntsville, Alabama Outpatient Clinic.
The position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements.
Duties
The duties of the Motor Vehicle Operator will include but not limited to: Operating a variety of automotive equipment, including passenger cars, vans, patient transport vans, panel trucks, cargo vans, trucks and patient transport buses. Responsible for picking up and delivering patients, employee, charts, mail, specimen, linens, pharmaceuticals, supplies etc. and delivering them to the medical center and the various Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOCs). Drive on public roads at controlled speeds to insure the patient's comfort. Maneuver the vehicle in and out of constricted areas including narrow city streets and congested parking lots. Adhere to all State, local and installation traffic laws and ordinances. Operates passenger buses that are equipped with medical support equipment to transport patients associated with the medical center. Performs the daily preventive maintenance on all assigned vehicles to include the cleanliness of the vehicles interior, ensuring fuel, water supply, tire etc. are at sufficient operating levels, and that a visual inspection (walk around) to ensure lights, turn signal, and the tires air pressure are satisfactory. Records pertinent information of trips on trip tickets and report any difficulty or unusual occurrences.
The position requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements for passenger, air brakes, and weight class over 26,001 lbs or more GVWR in order to legally operate certain vehicles utilized in this position.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent must possess the physical qualifications required to secure an operator's permit; the ability to sit and drive for long periods of time; the coordination required to operate the stated types of vehicles; and the ability to perform some lifting of material. Physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arm, feet and legs to operating hand and foot control of vehicles. Moderate effort is required in the frequent handling of objects up to and occasionally more than 50 pounds while loading and unloading cargo. Incumbent will assist and load wheelchair and stretcher patients in and out of patient transport vehicles.

Working Conditions: Is required to work under various weather and road conditions, the incumbent is required to operate vehicle on highways and street in all kinds of weather often for extended periods of time on long trips. The incumbent may be called back to work after working hours or on weekends to make emergency trips; exposure to dust and automotive fumes while operating vehicles; exposure to traffic accidents; and exposure to mental and isolation type patients and employees.
