This position is a Tractor Operator, WG-5705-7 working in Titusville, Florida, for the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. This is a term position expected to last 13 MONTHS but may be extended up to a total of 4 years at management's discretion.

Duties

As a Tractor Operator, your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Clean and maintain ditches, ponds, or other water diversion structures. Operate auxiliary equipment for a tractor (such as posthole augers, mowers, discs, plows, planters, cultivators/corrugators, grain drills, etc.) that require multiple connections such as mechanical drive shafts and hydraulic lines for power and control systems. Replace oil, hydraulic fluids, and coolant on tractors and/or related equipment. Perform safety inspection of heavy equipment including tractors.

Requirements

  • Duties of this position require the employee to possess and maintain a valid Class A State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to operate various vehicles and equipment.
  • This position is subject to physical examination and drug and alcohol testing requirements as established by the Department of Transportation (49 CFR 391.41 (b)(l) through (b)(13)).
  • Driver's License: Selectee required to possess and maintain a valid State driver's license at all times during their tenure.
  • The employee is required to wear the USFWS uniform in accordance with Part 041 of the Fish and Wildlife Service Manual.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Trial Period: Selectee may be required to successfully complete a trial period.

Qualifications

To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date of this announcement will be considered. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
