The primary purpose of this position, Mobile Equipment Operator, WG-5701-10 potential WG-5701-11, is the operation of weapons system peculiar support equipment, lifting devices, crane operations, handling, loading, and transport of assets from origin to destination, both locally and to remote locations, requiring over-the-road operations in several western states.
Duties
Operate the 110-ton Gantry Crane, perform 80-ton mobile crane operations, operate various overhead bridge cranes located throughout the various maintenance storage facilities and work buildings.
Apply skilled techniques in moving and lifting of solid propellant rocket motors containing large masses of net explosive weight as well as enormous physical weight.
Operates specialized over-sized weapon transportation system vehicle combinations with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) in excess of 216,000 pounds in the transporting of missile assets to the various missile wings, contractor facilities, test sites, etc.
Perform the roll-transfer, handling, placing, and storage of solid propellant ballistic rocket motor and/or missile assets to and from the various facilities and various weapon system trailers in accordance with the technical data and/or written directive.
Use and maintain equipment and tools; perform operator maintenance.
Comply with safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations.
Operate large snow removal equipment to clear snow from the road.

- The work may require the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Hazardous Material Endorsement and current medical card may be required.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
TARGETED POSITION: This position is a developmental (e.g.: WG-10 Target WG-11) position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-10). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. Military Spouse candidates exercising their preference will be placed at the full performance level, if considered to be best qualified and selected.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Considerable effort is exerted when reaching, bending, turning, or wing hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate and tum large, heavy vehicles and operate two braking systems. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 25 pounds without human or mechanical assistance and occasionally handles objects over 25 pounds with mechanical or human assistance while loading and unloading cargo.
Rigging work requires incumbent to frequently lift and carry moderately heavy such as cables, chains, and jacks. Continually reaches, bends, stoops, pushes, and pulls while attaching rigging gear to the object to be moved. Frequently uses entire body weight to push or pull suspended loads while moving objects in desired positions. Stands and walks for prolonged periods of time, and frequently climbs on platforms or structures to signal the crane operator.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works indoors and outdoors in all types of weather when loading and unloading vehicles. Drives in traffic on- and off-post in all types of weather conditions and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. Frequently exposed to unpleasant noise and heat from the work area. Exposed to serious injury from swinging loads, breaking lines, and falling objects, or overturned crane and semitrailer. Exposed to cuts, bruises, broken bones from falls while climbing and attaching rigging. Exposed to extremely hazardous and toxic fuel and oxidizer vapors. Hard hats, safety shoes and gloves are used.
