The position functions under the supervision of the Park Manager and higher graded Park Ranger.
Duties
Performs work assignments designed to provide the competencies, skills, and experience required to perform the more complex work at the full performance grade level.
The work increases in difficulty, complexity, and responsible as the incumbent gains experience and demonstrates full comprehension of assigned work.
At the full performance (GS-07), incumbent will be required to:
Plans, directs, and accomplishes the day-to-day operation of a group of general recreational areas each of which is physically dispersed in the park.
Typically, each of the assigned areas consists of numerous sites with moderate to heavy public visitation and include a combination of the following:
Day-use areas, Class A or Class B recreational areas, swimming beaches, amphitheater, fee areas, nature trails, Quasi-public areas, camping facilities, primitive areas, group camping areas,
Lease areas, picnic sites, pavilions, playgrounds, marinas, private boat docks, forestry/wildlife management areas, duck ponds, cycle trails, etc.
Conducts and directs land and water patrols to enforce rules and regulations to observe cleanliness and sanitation compliance, to prevent misuse or damage to government-owned property.
Through citation authority, enforces provisions of Title 36 and Lake Rules and regulations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R.
Qualifications
Who May Apply: Positions are open to:
Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. Short-term training programs (e.g. several two-week programs completed) are not considered an academic course of study.
Current students who will graduate no later than May 31, 2024.
Preference eligible veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation begin their two-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty. Eligibility for these veterans cannot exceed six years after degree or certificate completion.
Applicants will be selected at the GS-05 Level. The target grade of this position is GS-07.

To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, Recent Graduates must:
Be a U.S. Citizen
Successfully complete all the requirements of the Recent Graduate Program as defined in the Agency Participant Agreement.
Demonstrate successful job performance.
Meet the Office of Personnel Management qualification standard including any applicable positive education requirements and/or selection placement factors and any other designated special qualifications requirements and conditions of employment (e.g. medical standards) appropriate for the position to which being converted.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience GS-05:
One year of specialized experience which includes participating in the day-to-day operation of recreation areas; investigating and/or reports any violations or accidents; and performing activities such as fish and wildlife surveys, forest inventories, type mapping, firefighting prevention, suppression, controlled burning, encroachment and/or boundary line inspections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
