This National Guard position is for a HELICOPTER FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, Position Description Number D2460000 and is located in the Training Operations Branch of the Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF #1), Winder, Georgia. This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, dual status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership. Area of Consideration: Open nationwide to members of the Army Active Duty, Reserves, and National Guard.

Duties

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. As a Helicopter Flight Instructor, GS-2181-13, you will: Serve as rotary wing Instructor Pilot (IP). Train and evaluate aviators on basic and advanced flight techniques. This includes the procedures to use in emergencies and malfunctions over rough terrain, e.g., hills and forests both day and night. Training includes instruction and evaluation for operating unique electronics equipment, such as precision, non-precision, and GPS route navigation and approaches. Conduct initial standardization flight evaluations for new air crew members and annual evaluations for assigned and attached pilots, including local aircraft transitions including refresher training. Serve as pilot-in-command while operating single and/or multi-engine rotary wing aircraft to perform airlift support for DOD personnel, emergency medical evacuations, aerial fire suppression support, paradrops, rescue, and Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) operations. May be required to transport classified, chemical or other hazardous cargo. Pilot will possess competency on all aviation matters that will encompass safety as the number one priority, demonstrate a consistent mature judgment and maintain a high degree of pilot proficiency for conducting flight missions under visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR). Perform preflight weather analysis, route and altitude selections, alternate airport selection, fuel, cargo and passenger load computations, selection of refueling stops, preflight inspections, flight plan filing, and firing ranges route planning/coordination. Incorporate precision, non-precision, and GPS route navigation and instrument approaches in all mission planning and must be knowledgeable in all aspects of their operations. Perform one or more of the following major functional duties: a. Serve as rotary wing Instrument Flight Examiner (IE). Conducts instrument flight qualifications and training which includes, instrument flight planning, precision handling and maneuvering of the aircraft, navigation using the aircraft navigation instruments and systems, air traffic control operations, approach, departure, and holding procedures, and use of the ILS. b. Serve as rotary and/or fixed wing Standardization Instructor Pilot (SIP). Train and evaluate IP's and provide technical supervision of the standardization program. Ensure flight crew proficiency and qualification records are standardized and kept current. c. Serve as rotary wing Maintenance Test Pilot (MTP) and/or Functional Check Pilot (FCP). Incumbent performs general or limited maintenance test flights following maintenance modifications or repairs to include routine scheduled maintenance. Ensure compliance with Army maintenance regulations, FAA regulation specifically Part 91. Perform ground maintenance operational checks, trouble shooting, rotor smoothing. Minimize rotary wing vibration to ensure reduce time before overhaul (TBO) items and extend component life. d. Serve as Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) carrying out a variety of duties to provide a productive aviation safety program for the Army Aviation Support Facility. If assigned this duty the individual is required to successfully complete training in accordance with Federal laws, DoD and Army regulations before assuming any safety duties. Provide assistance to the AASF Commander concerning all areas of safety to implement and monitor the safety program by conducting scheduled and unscheduled surveys, monitoring the flight schedule for crew assignments, reading appropriate messages, distributing safety literature, planning and facilitating safety meetings, and providing advice to the different divisions as needed. Maintains the safety HAZLOG. Responsible for the AASF pre accident plan. Prepare for safety, environmental, hazardous communication, occupational health, and other inspections. Responsible for the aviation safety stand-down in conjunction with the aviation units. . Incumbent attends meetings on behalf of the AASF Commander, serves as an advisor to the AASF Commander on all matters having to do with air safety and serves as a member of the safety council. e. Serve as Maintenance Test Pilot (ME)/Functional Check Pilot (FCP) Evaluator: Serve as rotary wing Maintenance Test Pilot/Function Check Pilot Evaluator. Train and evaluate ME/FCP's and provides technical supervision and standardization of the maintenance program. Maintain requirements and perform function of technical inspector for aircraft assigned. Ensure ME/FCP pilot proficiency and qualification records are standardized and kept current. f. Serve as Aviation Mission Survivability Officer: Serve as an Aviation Mission Survivability Officer (AMSO) Tactical Operations (TACOPS) Officer. Will possess or obtain upon appointment the Skill Qualification Identifier (SQI) "I". Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.

  • Incumbent must possess and continue to maintain a US Army Class II Flight Physical.
