You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the STRUCTURES AND GROUNDS SERVICES BRANCH of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.
Duties
You will overhaul and rebuild diesel, multi-fuel, and gasoline engines (e.g., supercharged, turbocharged engines) to maintain functionality.
You will plan and schedule heavy mobile equipment induction and completion dates in coordination with shop planners, shop supervisors, and product teams (e.g., machining, welding, cleaning, paint).
You will consult technical documents and manuals (e.g., manufacturer's manuals, technical publications) to verify heavy mobile equipment maintenance and repairs are completed correctly.
You will determine tools and equipment to use to inspect or repair heavy mobile equipment and vehicles.
You will troubleshoot components (e.g., hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, structural, electrical) during removal, repair, alteration, overhaul, installation, and alignment of heavy mobile equipment.
You will use hydrometer to test batteries of heavy mobile equipment (e.g., construction, combat, utility, industrial, passenger vehicles, earth moving, ship loading, firefighting).
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You must possess and maintain a current valid California driver’s license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to lift and carry weights up to 45 lbs. or more for short distances.
- You will be required to a limited amount of crawling, reaching above the shoulders, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, climbing.
- You will be required to work from ladders at various heights.
- You will be required normal vision and hearing with or without corrective devices, depth perception, and distinguish colors relating to electrical wiring.
- You will be exposed to asbestos, fumes, smoke, gases, bruises, grease, oils, solvents, electrical energy, slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
- You will be working around machinery with moving parts/object or vehicles.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s permit (OF-346) to operate a 4x4 / 4x6 vehicles.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
