The Minneapolis Cardiology Department provides care to veterans with cardiac implantable devices in inpatient, intraprocedure and outpatient settings. The Cardiology EP Device RN will facilitate pre and post procedure care to patients undergoing pacemaker and implantable Cardiac Defibrillator (ICD) implants and ongoing care. They coordinate Device Clinics and serve as liaisons between physicians, patients, families, VISN wide RCM's, EP providers and nursing homes.

Duties

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the time of application. The Cardiology EP Device RN coordinates the Device Clinic and will be responsible for interrogation and programing of cardiac devices in coordination with the Cardiology providers. They will respond to and act upon telephone calls from device patients. The EP Device nurse also serves as a resource for staff nurses, residents and medical students. The EP Device nurse is responsible for post procedure device implant education for patient and family. The Cardiology EP Device RNmay beexpected to travel to all facilities/sites within the MVAHCS catchment area to operate device clinic and device care for veterans. Major Duties include but are not limited to: Supports patient care needs throughout the Cardiology Department and procedures. Serves as a resource for staff nurses, residents and medical students. Responsible for post procedure device implant education for patient and family. Triages and applies a collaborative team approach in identifying, analyzing, and resolving patient care problems. Skills in time management, priority setting, assessment and urgent intervention are essential for this unit. Facilitation of Homecare/Community referrals and recommendations to support ongoing veteran needs. Will facilitate pre and post procedure care to patients undergoing pacemaker and implantable Cardia Defibrillator implants and on going care. Recognizes and supports Suicide Prevention initiatives. Works collaboratively with all levels of health care professional and support staff to facilitate positive patient care outcomes. Compliance with various Isolation Precautions and Infection Control Guidelines. Maintains prevention & management of disruptive behavior skills, can be trained upon hire. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the time of application. Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program.
