This position is located at the Golf Branch, Recreation Division; Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department; Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. The purpose of this position is to maintain golf carts, retrieve golf balls from driving range and keep the driving range neat, clean, and presentable. This position may also act as a substitute starter when needed.
Duties
Uses a gas-powered mechanical golf ball retriever to pick up range balls; places golf balls in the range ball dispenser, retrieves range ball baskets, and keeps the golf range neat, clean and presentable.
Picks up range balls by hand that cannot be retrieved using the mechanical golf ball retriever.
Cleans, stores, and secures golf carts, attaches or removes the battery charger hook-ups as appropriate, and assists the golf cart mechanic with minor maintenance.
Changes the practice tee hitting area to a new location daily.
Cleans the golf ball dispenser and performs preventive maintenance functions such as cleaning the gears, cleaning debris from the inside of the dispenser, and oiling moving parts.
Checks patrons to ensure they have paid daily greens fees or can produce a monthly membership card.
Cleans and stocks restrooms and checks sanitation during the shift.
Empties trash cans and picks up papers, trash and debris around building and facilities in order to keep the outside area neat, clean and presentable.
Cleans and maintains shelters, heads and drinking fountains on the golf course. Replaces broken lights, paper products, and empties trash cans.
CONTROLS OVER THE POSITION
- Works under the direct supervision of the Head Golf Pro.
- Work assignments are received orally, by memo, and by written work assignment.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
- Must have salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Must be able to work outside, subject to inclement weather condition.
- Must be able to carry, lift and move objects up 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, and lift.

One year of specialized experience directly related to the duties described above.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- some degree of skill to maneuver a mechanical golf ball retriever and golf carts in small places, tight confide spaces, and to maintain the golf ball retriever, golf ball dispenser, and golf carts.
- Must be tactful and able to effectively meet and deal with the public.
- Must have knowledge of the rules and etiquette of golf.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
