About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a diverse city nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia. Duties

Analyze information against the explanation of benefits received from the insurance companies. Verify reconciliation documentation and check register to ascertain accuracy of statements of accountability. Post payments from insurance companies, individuals, Tricare, other Federal Agencies, and other entities in the Armed Forces Billing and Collection Utilization Solution (ABACUS). Prepare cash and check deposits utilizing the US Treasury’s OTCnet system. Make contact with Accounts Receivables, Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS), and the Budget Office to resolve errors and for additional guidance on accounting processes. Prepare form such as DD Form 1131 Cash Collection Voucher (CCV) in ABACUS and reconcile with accounts to be posted.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • THIS IS A FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT Level 1 Incumbent of this position is required to comply with all Department of Defense and Department requirements of this certification program.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical and accounting technician support duties such as: verifying the accuracy and completeness of accounting data; reviewing accounting transactions and accounting records; researching discrepancies and making adjustments; utilizing computer systems and software and or accounting systems such as General Fund Enterprise Business Solution (GFEBS) Automated Disbursing System (ADS), Armed Forces Billing and Collection Utilization Solution (ABACUS) to post, access, retrieve, update, reconcile and provide reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of the position, such as Billings, Accounting, Finance, etc. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accounting OperationsComputer SkillsConcepts, Policies, and Principles of AccountingPrinciples of Accounting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
