About the position: This position will be assigned to the Child Development Center on Edwards AFB. Physical Effort: Frequently lifting objects weighing 40 lbs., & occasionally lifting over 40 lbs. Continuous standing & walking, & frequent stooping, reaching, pushing & bending. Working Conditions: Works in hot & noisy kitchens. Exposed to steam, fumes & odors. Danger of falling, burns & cuts. Exposed to extreme temperatures when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezer unit.

Duties

Responsible for the planning, scheduling, and supervising of NAF employees in the Child Development Center kitchen. Instruct employees on appropriate preparation of food for children. Prepares schedules and approves/disapproves leave. Ensures employees follow health and safety standards. Responsible for requirement, employee evaluations and staff training. Ensures food and equipment are available for use in food preparation. Responsible for the preparation and prompt serving of meals to children in the Child Development Center. Formulates cyclic menus for use to conform to USDA Standards. Checks food during and after preparation for conformance, eye appeal and proper seasoning. Adjusts standardized recipes and performs yield testing. Prepares special foods in conjunction with parent parties and parent advisory meals. Responsible for inventory of foods, supplies and equipment. Orders and receives food using computer program. Prepares USDA and FDA reports, reports any inventory variance to the Director. Ensures equipment is cleaned and maintained and reports any damage or breakdowns to the Director. Responsible for receipts and account balances IAW procedures for the NAF Pcard usage. Provides food handlers training to all CYPAs. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work is assigned either written or orally from Child Development Center Director. Work is reviewed in progress and upon completion for adequacy and compliance with instructions. Ability to supervise three or more workers to provide children appropriate meals. Knowledge of food preparation and characteristics of foods. Skill to plan coordinate and time sequence steps needed to prepare entire meals on time without overcooking or waste. Ability to adjust recipes for servings required substitutions and seasoning; recognize characteristics of foods in deciding that raw materials are fresh; and judge prepared food by color, consistency, temperature, odor and taste. Requirements

  • This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain, maintain, and provide evidence of current immunizations this includes annual influenza vaccinations and be free of all communicable diseases.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Food Handlers certification, within specified time from date hire or assignment to position.
  • This position could require shift work including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, or family down days.
  • The position requires the incumbent to be at least 18 years old.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Experience in supervising the work of subordinate employees in accomplishing cooking duties. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions and be able to use a variety of kitchen equipment. Progressively responsible experience in quantity cooking, preparation of a variety of food item appropriate for children, quality and cost control of food preparation, inventory and storage procedures for food supplies and equipment, and procurement of food supplies and equipment. Must be able to perform yield testing to determine portion cost and to adjust ingredients in standardized recipes. Experience must have been gained in a grill, snack bar restaurant or similar food activity. Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally over 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods of time. Must satisfactorily complete food handlers training, obtain and pass a pre-employment physical, TB Tine, CPR/First Aid, and installation, state, and national criminal background checks. Must have basic computer skills. Performance Standards: Ensures foods are properly prepared by reviewing work in progress and evaluates employee performance. Ensures that EEO concepts are applied and that an appropriate work environment is maintained, Ensures good safety and health practices. Maintains and effective internal control system to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud, waste, and abuse. Consistently accomplishes work in a timely manner and ensures meals are served in the time allotted. Consistently maintains the kitchen cleanliness to include equipment IAW base food regulations. Meets USDA and FDA report suspense's. Promptly informs supervisor of accidents and/or damages to supplies, equipment or vehicles and of any observed unsafe practices and /or procedures in a timely manner. Training: Facility operation, USDA, food handlers, anti-robbery, AFOSH, bomb threat, building security, manual lifting, code of ethics, fire safety, CPR and First Aid, customer service, personnel management, and any conferences, workshops, seminars available in food preparation for children. Skills and Knowledge: Ability to supervise three or more workers to provide children appropriate meals. Knowledge of food preparation and characteristics of foods. Skill to plan coordinate and time sequence steps needed to prepare entire meals on time without overcooking or waste. Ability to adjust recipes for servings required substitutions and seasoning; recognize characteristics of foods in deciding that raw materials are fresh; and judge prepared food by color, consistency, temperature, odor and taste.
