Duties
Serve as Health Systems Specialist, with responsibility as the Dental Practice Manager, independently coordinating, planning, and evaluating direct administration, management, and coordination of the dental activity program.
Provide technical and administrative supervision over Dental Assistants, Dental Hygienists, and Treatment Coordinators assigned to the Dental Clinic.
Plan, direct, analyze, and coordinate administrative activities of the dental clinic and advise on matters pertaining to the dental health care delivery.
Provide performance input concerning treatment coordinators, expanded functional dental assistants (EFDAs), dental assistants, dental hygienists and other administrative support personnel.
Plan work of staff, setting and adjusting short-term priorities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Basic Requirement for aSupervisory Health System Specialist:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the administrative operations of a clinical practice and managing the workload of a clinic and its staff members. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
