You will serve as a PAINTER withNAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will assemble staging and scaffolds to verify safe access to the surface to be finished.
You will apply covering materials to meet specified texture, decorative, thickness, and level requirements.
You will mix and apply different kinds of materials, solvents, and pre-coating agents (e.g., paints, varnishes, epoxies, polyurethane, removers, phosphate compounds, anti-growth agents, stains).
You will use metal and synthetic resins, plastics, and patching compounds to build up, shape, and level surfaces.
Requirements

- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: (1) Assist in removing scale, rust, dirt, and old paint from surfaces so that coating material will adhere properly; (2) Assist in applying coating materials so that the surfaces are free from skips, runs, and drips; (3) Read and apply directions relating to the mixture, use and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents and pre-coating agents, e.g., paint, varnish, epoxy; and (4) Apply coating material with brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other related methods and techniques. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
