To coordinate, implement, and provide training for security forces at an installation. To enforce law, maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation.

Duties

Serves as the focal point for the security forces training program, coordinating and implementing all training activities for the unit. Ensures that all training program measures and actions taken comply with federal, DoD, Air Force, MAJCOM and local rules, directives, instructions, requirements, and procedures. Plans, develops, coordinates, schedules, accomplishes, and/or monitors various unit training activities to include military and civilian security forces training. Conducts training classes for security forces personnel. Prepares lesson plans and teaches introductory, foundational skills and specialty training courses for personnel performing associated Security Forces duties in basic installation entry control, patrol duties, special events security, and pre-deployment critical skills training in accordance with AFI 36-2646, Security Forces Training and Standardization Evaluation Programs. Schedules/delivers training classes as directed by HQ Air Force Security Forces Center (AFSFC) in coordination with other front-range Security Forces Training Sections to deliver expeditionary active shooter training skills to non-security forces personnel. Develops and monitors the accomplishment of security forces training plans and obtains and develops training aids and materials. Completes initial instructor certification and maintains certifications by completing annual/biennial refresher instructor training courses and checks source material for continuous updates in multiple disciplines. Attends, arranges, and conducts meetings, briefings, and workshops and performs other duties related to security forces training. Performs and enforces the full range of police officer duties within the military installation. Pursues and apprehends or directs apprehension of person(s) fleeing a crime scene or attempting to resist arrest; carries a firearm as required.

  • Must be qualified in the use of required weapons
  • Valid driver’s license will be required and must be able to operate all Security Forces vehicles and installed equipment.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • May be required to wear special protective clothing such as coats, boots, vests, gas masks, and/or helmets and may be exposed to high levels of noise such as aircraft engines.
  • (1 of 2) Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required initial and annual physical fitness/physical agility tests, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • (2 of 2) The incumbent must immediately report to his supervisor any significant medical threshold shifts in health status and/or medical requirements.
  • This position has been identified as a designated position under the Air Force Drug Testing Plan. Incumbent of this position is subject to the possibility of a random drug test.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Budget Analysis Series 0560. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. Individual Occupational Requirements: Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have, or will have within 120 days of closing of this announcement, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, GS-08. Specialized experience includes enforcing law, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights. Specialized Experience is experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a range of security forces policies, procedures, and practices. Knowledge of overall security forces missions, functions, and structure. Skill in developing course materials and instructional methods, principles, and techniques. Ability to instruct training courses in a classroom seminar setting. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of police officer procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of police officer activities independently to include protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response and dispatch. Additional Conditions of Employment Must obtain and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques, self aid buddy care, and first aid. Must wear a uniform and meet applicable AF dress and appearance standards. Must be in compliance with applicable fitness and weight standards. Subject to annual duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard. Must pass initial formal law enforcement training school as determined by functional; a certificate from a federally recognized law enforcement academy is preferred. Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties. This position may be designated mission essential based on local conditions. Mission essential personnel report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting, and remain on duty during phased or early release. This position may be designated as a key position. Duties of this position may be locally determined to be essential to accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filing the position during an emergency is not available PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
