This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Navajo Region in Crownpoint, New Mexico. This position supports the road maintenance program of the Eastern Navajo Agency Branch of Roads by ensuring the proper and adequate minor repair and preventative maintenance of the Agency's heavy equipment fleet. NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

Duties

Completing preventative maintenance on a variety of automotive, heavy mobile and powered support equipment. Knowledge of all equipment serviced in order to test and service equipment for proper operation. Operates an assortment of power and pneumatic tools including gas and diesel-powered air compressor, and air-powered tools. Performs routine preventative maintenance and emergency service on equipment. Attends meetings and training, as required. Strictly adheres to the Agency Safety Program and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plan. Submits accurate daily activity reports reflecting work performed, equipment utilization, and materials utilized to accurately determine maintenance cost for program computerized accountability. Performs a variety of general labor duties in the preservation, repair and restoration of earth roads, graveled roads, paved roads and bridges.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. ELEMENT #2-E: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. ELEMENT #25-E: Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) ELEMENT #60: Use of Measuring Instruments ELEMENT #75-A: Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting readying) ELEMENT #81: Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment. ELEMENT #82-A: Knowledge of Materials Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.
