This position serves as a Health Technician (Audiology). The incumbent will perform clerical and paraprofessional audiometric services to assist the Audiologist in the daily operations of the department. This position reports to the Chief Audiologist of the Clinton Service Unit.
Duties
Provide excellent customer service by greeting and assisting patients with: completion of forms, appointments and management of consults.
Assists in the triage of patients and answers general questions about the audiology program.
Assists with the maintenance, repair and fitting processes of hearing aids.
Monitors and maintains equipment and supplies for the department.
Assists the Audiologist with test procedures as requested.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Individual Occupational Requirements:
Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: You must meet one of the following requirements to meet the GS-05 grade level:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: receiving and relaying incoming and outgoing telephone messages; receiving and directing patients and visitors, answering routine inquiries, scheduling appointments for patients; updating registration and assisting patients in completing forms; sending, receiving and distributing mail; performing intake interviews to determine purpose of visit; preparing patients and exam rooms for procedures; providing instructions to patients; assisting the provider with procedures; monitoring and ensuring availability of supplies; making chart notes and using an Electronic Health Record; OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position; OR
Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
GS-06: You must meet the following requirements to meet the GS-06 grade level:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: receives and scheduling consults; assists provider with procedures maintains calibration and equipment files; performs listening checks, cleaning and changing of a variety of hearing aid parts to improve aid function or determine need for repair; responsible for receiving, check in and maintaining records for all hearing aid acquisitions in an excel database; monitor infection control processes of equipment and patient care areas.
GS-07: You must meet one of the following requirements to meet the GS-07 grade level:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Creates purchase requests for supplies and services; monitors internal and external referrals for patients; performs a variety of screening exams such as: tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions and puretone hearing screening; maintains calibration of equipment and ensures timely acquisition of service; provides detailed troubleshooting of hearing aids and is able to provide more complex repairs, modifications and changing of parts; performs reprogramming and electroacoustic analysis of hearing aids; inputs audiogram and other information into a variety of databases; Assists patients with basic hearing aid functions such as use, care, batteries, Bluetooth connectivity; OR
Successfully completed 1-year (18 semester hours) of graduate education in subjects directly related to the position; OR
Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
